range. I'll spend £50 on something I want just fine, I am much less
keen to spend £50 on a £30 thing I want which comes with £20 of
extra I don't want and literally cannot use in some cases. Lots of
people are keen to buy tanks but when they all come with prem time
and gold you get so much of it it becomes useless. What do I need
another 6k gold in with this tank when I have 20k sitting about I
can't spend? Why should I pay for 3 more months of premium time
when I have a year's worth already? Brynd: No I really don't think I am missing the point, but you are
welcome to differ. I wonder if you may be missing mine.
If enough people are prepared to pay the price for a
tank with gold they don't necessarily need for us to keep our
business functioning and the free service supported, then that's my
point, because from the company perspective that's "job done."
A supermarket won't discount its prices for items that are
selling well, as it leads to profit loss or worse being unable to
meet costs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting here
like an evil mastermind, strumming my fingers on the desk with glee
at player misfortune - I'm just trying to point out why the
model is unlikely to change much if it is working for us.
Darkrenown, on 11 December 2015 - 10:33 AM, said: Also, sales figures are pointless without a comparison. You say the
current method "works", but if you don't try other methods how do
you know they would not be better - or even just similar but lead
to happier people? Brynd: I also want to clearly state here that it doesn't mean that
it will never change or that we'll never try new things, just that
it is probably better not to expect that. I'm not sure we've always
done well at managing expectations and I'm kinda of the view now
that I'd rather any pleasing news in regards to pricing was a
complete surprise, rather than a carrot dangled in front of you
that you can never actually chew on.
Darkrenown, on 11 December 2015 - 10:33 AM, said: When you are selling virtual goods pretty much any method of
selling them will work, I mean you conjour "gold" out of thin air.Brynd: The whole game is electromagnetic. However the
costs of maintaining the structure are very much more
substantive.
Darkrenown, on 11 December 2015 - 11:53 AM, said: Because when you double the price by adding "extras" you may
(or may not) halve your sales or worse. Typically there are more
poor people than rich people, so lowering the price of something
people want tends to generate more total income. This is especially
true when you have sales because people love bargains. See every
steam sale, for example - games have deep discounts, but far more
people buy them, and game companies make higher total incomes by
huge factorsBrynd: I admittedly don't know anything about you, but I think
the people doing the sales research and analysing the sales data
definitely have more expertise in the subject than at least myself.
Though it's possible they might experiment with other ways
to bring funds to the company in ways that seem less
objectionable to those who don't buy them, there's more than enough
people that do for it to be also possible that no changes might be
made in the strategy. But please do keep leaving your
feedback, suggesting changes, and being relatively reasonable about
it because it really helps for us to have constructive, well
thought out arguments to deliver to those who need to hear the
feedback. Your feedback would be crucial in any future changes
to our strategy.
