LordBaxter, on 02 August 2010 - 07:05 AM, said: It'd make artillery a lot harder though, also I believe that line
of sight of tanks themselves do play a roll, I know that sometimes
I have been snuck up upon due to my turrent facing the wrong
direction, however some tanks do have mirrors and other devices to
allow them to see in directions other than straight ahead. I do
dislike the whole "track movement after line of sight lost" feature
though, its very annoying to kill a light tank, start moving away
and get one shotted by enemy artillery.

Link on message: #51239

merig00: What I meant is that if there is a building in front of you behind
which is a tank there is a high chance you won't see it even though
it's in your view range. Same goes for hiding in bushes - you can
drive by in 10 meters from well hidden tank.

Cyrilix, on 02 August 2010 - 06:22 AM, said: What? Did I say something wrong? That's pretty much the point where
it takes significant effort for someone to hit you. Right now,
there's just not that element of significant effort to hit a light
tank. Also, you're tier 10, so repair costs are high, ammo costs
are high, etc. You got to play it smart.

merig00: That's strange. What installer did you use? Does it have "full" in
it's name? If it doesn't uninstall the game and download the full
game not installer from here http://game.worldoftanks.com/update
If you did install from the "full" installer. Go to the following folder (assuming default install) C:\Games\World_of_Tanks_closed_Beta\Updates and see if you have torrent files there. Download the files to the same folder using your own torrent client. And if that does not work read up on this topic: http://forum.worldof...ch-please-read/
Basically WoTLauncher is a torrent client that checks for updates and for some reason it doesn't work for you.

merig00: 1. That's when all or most of your spent exp/credits and some gold
are refunded back to you but you start from the beginning level
wise.
2. No idea. Probably no softwipe unless devs need to make some major database changes before the release. And don't expect american tanks in the beta.
3. See above about db changes.

Archives\Beta\Rate of fire VS damage VS penetration
Link on message: #50722
merig00, on 12 July 2010 - 06:27 AM, said: Ok here you go...
First the server checks if there is a ricochet. And as I mentioned before all projectiles will ricochet if the angle of the hit is lower than 10 degrees, with one exception when the thickness of the armor is 3 times lower than the caliber of the projectile. So if there is no ricochet the projectile is rotated to normalize the angle and we proceed to calculate the thickness of the armor under the given slope (thickness/cosine of the angle between armor and the projectile - not 100% correct but close enough for an arcade). After that we check the table to see what armor-penetration capability the projectile would have at a given distance. The number we get is modified by gaussian(normal) distribution limited by +/- 30%. And finally we compare it to the armor thickness we calculated in the second step. If piercing number is higher we get penetration, if lower - ding.
Example: We have 100mm armor. And let's say the projectile with armor-penetration of 120mm on given distance can get through 110mm of armor. Let's say because of the impact angle the armor got "thicker" to 121mm. We roll the dice (distribution) and with some probability the penetration capability of the projectile might change to 110+/-33mm. If it changed to 121 and above - we get penetration. If below - ding.
There is also a normal distribution limited by +/- 50% to damage inflicted. It is in the plans to reduce limits to 30%.
Each tank has "weak spots" like visor, tracks, connection between turret and hull etc. If you hit them you get critical damage. The HE round "spreads" on impact over some area hence it's the best way to damage such weak spots. Also ammo rack, fuel tank and obviously the crew have some HP points so if you hit strong enough the spot on the tank behind which is ammo rack you can damage it or even blow up. You can kill crew member, set fuel tank on fire, etc. I don't have numbers for critical damage calculations. There is "ward-save"
for modules and crew - 60%-70%
chance that the tank will take on the damage instead of crew or
modules.
On top tanks are covered by "thin armor"
Due to limitation of the game engine tanks "grow" from the ground so there is no armor on the bottom.
Is this specific enough?
