The_Chieftain: That paper and EE's analysis has been the subject of some
discussion in the past. The question is the frame of reference:
Doyle is adamant that German quality control for Panzers was never
decreased nor the standards lowered during the war. (Note, panzers,
other vehicles like jagdpanzer deliberately used lower quality
plate as that was what was allocated as available). The obvious way
to parse this dichotomy is to consider the possibility that what
the US considered critical characteristics were not what the
Germans considered to be critical. The "hardness"
statement, incidentally, doesn't necessarily get disapproven even
if one accepts the DTIC report at face value. The production
ratings for hardness of the German plate was higher than that of
the US, it would be other factors that the US failed it on.

AgentXIII: White dead tanks are not prohibited on the NA server.
Apologies but they really aren't that significant of an advantage.
1: We allow clown car skins, so a player could skin all
tanks that are alive and would easily be able to tell a dead tank
from a live one. 2: The game allows for highlighting of tanks when
your mouse over them, this does not happen to dead tanks. I
could go on, but honestly, two bullet points is all I really need
to get the point across that white dead tank skins do not really
offer a significant advantage over other players.
As for the rule you are citing. This rule is for the Developer
Partner Program and will stand to mod developers that wish to be a
part of this program.

Magick, on May 04 2014 - 02:02, said: Ronson lighters are interesting, in that the design was the
first mechanical lighter, and predates the more well known "Zippo"
type. The Ronson lighter was first designed in 1897, and entered
production in 1911. From 1926 to 1930, they were
marketed under the slogan "A flick and it's lit. A snap and it's
out." In 1930, this was simplified to "A press and it's lit."
In 1932, Ronson designed a new type of lighter which used a
press system as opposed to the wheel striker. This type became very
popular, though it was slowly eclipsed by a second version, which
came into more prominence in the late 50's when the fuel became
cheaper to produce. The second version did away with the
liquid fuel, and instead made use of butane. This design is
the one which came with the original advertisement which stated
that it "lights first time, every time." Not surprising,
considering the butane was not affected by being subjected to rain
or wind. However these lighters were not overly popular. If
anything, their cost was prohibitive more than anything.
At the time, one of these early butane lighters would have
cost roughly twenty dollars. That would equate to roughly
298.00 dollars today. The fuel, which only lasted about a week, was
five dollars a can, or close to seventy dollars today. Needless to
say, the average person couldn't afford to buy them. They may
have heard the ads somewhere, as it was a popular radio
advertisement (or so Ronson themselves claim) but it wasn't until
1957, when the lighter was redesigned and reintroduced as the
Veraflame that prices were lowered...somewhat. A Veraflame in
1957, which I might add is a "table" lighter, would run the average
person ten dollars, or about eighty-four dollars today. Fuel was
down, now that it was easier to produce, and the materials were not
critical to the war effort, with prices ranging in the two to three
dollar range, or sixteen to seventeen dollars per can.
With the introduction of the Veraflame, Ronson phased out
much of their "traditional" wheel type striker models, aiming for a
higher end market. As a result of this, they also consolidated
their advertising slogans to the existing slogan from the previous
butane lighters, taking the "Lights first time, every time." slogan
for the new all butane line. This was carried over into their
smaller wheel striker line, and continued until the mid 1980's as
the company entered a downturn in sales. What ultimately
hurt Ronson was simply the cost. People buying lighters were moving
away from the more flashy, expensive variants; and instead were
seeking something cheaper which could do the same job. Zippo and
Bic entered the market full force, with Zippo having always been a
cheaper alternative to Ronson, and Bic a new bakelite, and later
plactic, cheap entry into the market. In the end, Ronson
really could not compete with the cheaper variants, and while they
did attempt to do so to some degree, producing inexpensive butane
lighters in the 80's, by that point it was really too late.
Ronson tried branching out, and survived primarily on
Ronsonol, (lighter fluid), until 2010 when they were bought out by
Zippo.

Link on message: #7109097
Captain_Judo: The WGLNA Gold League is unlike any of our other tournaments.
Please review all guidelines below. General Rules One team
advances to the WGLNA Gold League's Season 4 from Qualifier
1. Brackets are randomly seeded. All matches follow a
best-of-five format. In the event of a draw, teams continue in the
map pool until a winner is decided or chosen maps are
exhausted. If all 5 maps are exhausted, the match goes to a
Tie-Breaker Assault. Teams may choose different tanks, follow the
tank selection rules. Vehicle Limit: Tier VIII Tier points:
42 tier points (-1 for each player less than 7) Teams may choose to
play without a full roster of 7 players. Teams cannot play with
less than 5 players. Matches must play at designated times.
MAP SELECTION Teams will play a best-of-five format. Please refer
to the Tie-Breaker Assault rules if there is no winner after five
battles. Map picking begins with a coin toss by the tournament
admin. The winner of the coin toss (Team A) picks the side they
would like to start on for the Map of the Day. Team A may defer
choice of side on Map of the Day to their opponent in favor of
first map pick. The loser (Team B) of the coin toss will then
initiate the map picking process. All maps are selected before
match initiation. Map/Side picking is as follows: Team A picks side
on Map of the Day or defers to their opponent(B). In the case of a
deferral, A will pick the map for the next battle.
If A defers map side then continue the series with A and B swapped.
Team B picks 1st map or defers to their opponent(A) and then B will pick side.
Team A picks 2nd map or defers to their opponent(B) and then A will pick side.
Team B picks 3rd map or defers to their opponent(A) and then B will pick side.
Team A picks 4th map or defers to their opponent(B) and then A will pick side. Battle order is: Map of the Day(Side Team A) Team B map or defer Team A map or defer Team B map or defer Team A map or defer The Map of the Day is predetermined for that day of league play. Listed here are the maps for each day in order of day played: Cliff Ensk Steppes Himmelsdorf Ruinberg Mines The Map of the Day may not be chosen for a match. It may be chosen on any other day. The following maps may be used: Mines Himmelsdorf Prokhorovka Ensk Ruinberg Abbey Cliffs Steppes Tie-Breaker Assault Tie-Breaker Assault occurs if no team has won after five matches. The winner of Tie-Breaker Assault advances in the bracket. The Tie-Breaker Assault map will take place on Karelia. Side (determining which team defends or attacks) is determined by whichever team inflicts the most damage after five rounds. The team inflicting the most damage may defer this decision to the other team. The format remains 7x42 with Tier VIII tanks being the greatest tier allowed. The “defending” team wins if the “attacking” team cannot capture the “defending” team’s cap. The “attacking” team wins if the “attacking” team destroys all the “defending” team’s tanks or captures the “defending” team’s cap. TANK SELECTION Non-broadcasted Matches: The team selecting the side picks the first two tanks. The other team then picks two tanks. This continues until everyone has picked their tank. Tank selection is then permanent and gameplay commences. Broadcasted Matches: Tank selection is under a 60 second countdown. The admin commences the battle after the 60 second countdown. Every team member must record replays. Captains are required to take screenshots of battle results and any rule violations when disputing results. Upon completion of a match, both teams report their victory by contacting the admin in the WGLNAQual channel and emailing all match replays and results to WGLNAQualifier@gmail.com. Teams found using players that are not part of their rosters may be disqualified at the discretion of the admin(s). In the event of a dispute, players should contact an available WGLNA_Admin in the WGLNAQual chat channel in the World of Tanks client immediately. Getting Into Your Matches Unlike other World of Tanks competitions, the matches for this event are not automated. The first qualifier round begins Thursday, May 22nd at 17:00 PDT. Teams must be available 30 minutes before their scheduled match time for match broadcasting. Matches are scheduled to be played and broadcasted at these times. Match times will be confirmed for each team at close of registration: Matches 1-15 play at 1700 PDT, be available at 1630 PDT
Matches 16-31 play at 1800 PDT, be available at 1730 PDT
Matches 32-47 play at 1900 PDT, be available at 1830 PDT
Matches 48-64 play at 2000 PDT, be available at 1930 PDT Teams chosen for broadcasting must use the WGLNA teamspeak to communicate. Failure to do so results in disqualification. The teamspeak server address will be provided to the team captain. Teams must be aware of their start times and opponents by checking the tournament bracket.
Team B picks 3rd map or defers to their opponent(A) and then B will pick side.

stalkervision, on May 03 2014 - 23:42, said: I have seen german tankers that say the Sherman "lit" every time..I

lowest casualty rate per knocked-out tank, right?
Quote yes sure, I will believe these tests which were probably ordered to shut everyone up but considering both sides of the conflict say they burned very easily
The_Chieftain: Put a few rounds into anything and they'll burn. However,
the Germans understood that the American recovery effort was very,
very good, and a knocked out tank could still be repaired only
to have to be fought again in a while. As a result, situation
permitting, German gunners would fire repeatedly into US vehicles,
even if they were already known to be knocked out, until the tank
caught fire. A burned tank is scrap metal and cannot be effectively
repaired. This, however, also meant that a very high percentage of
M4s recovered were burned, higher than may otherwise have been
expected. Impressions at the receiving end are everything.
Quote do you believe these tests :)
The_Chieftain: Yes. There is no reason for either the Ordnance
Branch or Armored Force to take a test which says "Guys, find out
what is causing the tank to catch fire" and falsify the result
to say "It's the ammunition"
Quote Look at the original tests of the m-16 vs the older army rifles
The_Chieftain: I admit, I haven't read the rationale of as to why the AR-15
was initially rejected by the Army before being properly tested,
but in this case, one cannot say that the M4 was not being properly
tested.
