The_Chieftain: I think that there is a serious shortsightedness when it comes to
discussing the concept of personhood for corporations in the
current environment. It’s as if people can’t see before Citizens
United. Corporations have been legal persons since... well,
since whenever someone decided the legal name of the thing should
be ‘corporation’. It’s in the name, corpus, body, person. The
concept of the fictional legal person is necessary for any
corporation to function. It has the power to make contracts, sue in
court, have bank accounts... to do anything in the legal
environment that a person does, it is precisely why they were
invented in the first place and has naught to do with tax
legislation. Their balance sheets would catch fire, all
right... every corporation would completely collapse, and together
with it the financial structures we have and, frankly, society as
we know it. As to the question of Can Openers, sales are low
compared to Firepower. Both are sold the same way, same price, same
advertising. One was a reprint, the other brand new. Folks just
aren’t biting, so be it.
