T110's Northern Migration

Perhaps this was due to the poor performance of American 57mm ammo compared to UK ammo? If anything by 2000 yards the 57mm APCBC is actually superior to 75mm APCBC. If you compare the earlier AP shots (6 Pounder AP vs M72), the weight advantage of the 75 only really benefits over the 57mm at ranges over 2400~ yards.

I know this might be the case of internet bolt counters and number crunchers versus real circumstances- but sometimes it has me headscratching- at short ranges (>700 yards) the 57mm has some massive advantages in penetration. It could, for example, "semi"-reliably penetrate Tiger I frontally, and with APCR or APDS it could do so at a broad set of angles and range. It really makes me wonder if it was worth, for example, converting ALL Cromwell tanks to 75mm, and rather have some retaining the 57mm for anti-tank duty. The 6 Pounder did get a HE round later that performed acceptably.

The_Chieftain:   My filing system sucks, but this one is easy enough to find on my hard drive: It's part of the letter General Bruce sent recommending changing from the 57mm T49 to the 75mm (eventually-named) T67.   Just arrived Sydney. Am I going to have to start deleting posts again? I've been travelling since Nashville, I'm not in the mood for it.
