The_Chieftain:   I think it would be an original, actually. There are three precedents offhand.   1) The new production of Yak 9s. Built from the original tooling which was laying around after the war gathering dust, the serial numbers continue. 2) Same with the Me262s under restarted production, 3) Tornado, the  British locomotive, is considered to be the 50th in the Peppercorn class despite being built over 50 years after the 49th, and, again, the serial number is sequential, as she was built to the same plans as the other 49.   So, if you were to build an indistinguishable Texas, it would be the third New York class ship, not a replica.   Of course, we can also open up the Theseus' Ship arguments...
