How do you become an effective artillerist?

I see one piece of information that surprised me a little. Move to avoid counterbattery. I'm intrigued. How do you counterbattery in WoT? I know we're entering graduate level clicking here, but I'm willing to learn and give it a try.  Btw: employing some of the tricks i got earlier let me finish SPG13 for the stug. It's a platoon mission but i did it solo :). Probably a little fluke of course but in my short arty session today I felt i was more effective than usual. Thanks.

The_Chieftain:   It's nowhere near as easy as it used to be.   But the general gist of it is that if you happen to be in artillery view looking down over the area that the enemy artillery is in, and he fires, you'll see the 'tracer' originate and fly off. Fire a round back just beyond where that tracer originated from, and you ought to secure a hit, if the guy didn't move.   However, at higher tiers especially, the rate of fire is so low that you're spending far too much time scanning for targets in the hope that you'll get lucky, be in the right place, and notice the round. It may be more viable at lower tiers with faster loading. However, generally speaking, I don't think it's worth it any more, unless you get cued on by a recent spot.
