The_Chieftain: It is my opinion that unless there is some time-sensitive reason which makes you require an E5 sooner than you would otherwise make it, the top gun is highly recommended. Yes, it's XP which delays the E5 a bit, but you'll find that getting that additional required XP is a fair bit more fun, and also that because it's more capable, you'll be getting more XP/battle anyway, which reduces the overall length of the grind.
