Match Making

You can win a game on a good team while playing poorly and you can lose a game playing well on a weak team. Both can distort you overall score/rating and are not accurate measures . Now , my question is with the match making and the tiers assigned or used in a game . For example when I use a tier 5 tank, I am matched with tier 4, 5 and 6 usually with much the same skills. The game is fair and even . The variety of skills are reasonable . But some thing happens that distorts this situation as I go to higher tiers.  If I play a tier 7 tank I am playing against tier 7 , 8 and 9 Tanks with players with 3 or more skills. My tank is totally ineffective , both offensively and defensively . I am not sure I see the value of this consistently unfair matching or the reason for it.  .  I think it is counter productive for the new player. It does not lead to an evolution growth of skills through experience as you are always out played , by vastly better tanks and players.    It is like me playing one on one basketball with Micheal Jorden . I am not going to get better . I will merely develop a much deeper appreciation for what a super athlete he is  and not being able to even slightly compete walk away discouraged. ( And the fact that he does it with grace and ease makes me feel worse).     Why can't the game composition be 2 tiers wide and the number of skill/perks totals be  some what  even or close.  The Higher tier tanks with more than average skill/perks have significant advantage against noobs in lower tiers with no or few skills.  I do not like being match against them.  The current systems looks to me to be clearly unbalanced to a degree that it is very discouraging for the new player.   I will tell you another thing , in a tier 7, 8, and 9 game the guys playing tier 9 look for the lower tier tanks to destroy first just to run up points and scores. The tier 9 players on my team do not seam to take defensive stances but go into this score run up mode also.  It is if the lower tier noob tankers are the targets . My tier 7 tank is no use against a single tier 9 , let alone two or three of them .   I welcome debate on this . And would like to hear from anyone that can shed light on this agreeing or disagreeing. If I am wrong -pls tell me.

KRZYBooP:   Welcome to World of Tanks!   HEREis an article with more information on the many changes of MM since the start of the Game. Or you can watch the video here---v   Due to the way our economy works currently you have just as much chance to see a player with more than one crew skill in all tiers. Stronghold battles happen at Tier 6 so some players have those tanks fully kitted out including the bonds consumables that give crew fully trained skills for one battle. Tier 8 also offers some of the best profits per credits spent so there are players that fully kit out those tanks. Crew skills are helpful but the basics of blocking shots, not being seen when firing, and when to disengage to flank the enemy are all more important in my opinion than fully perked crew. I play demo accounts with fully trained crew and while they do offer a little help, they don't stop four people from firing at you from across the map and remaining unseen.    Depending on your tank and what Tank you are firing upon starts to get more important in tiers 7,8,and 9. Tiers 1-4 are mostly light and mediums with a few heavies but mostly everything can be penned reliably from a wider range of angles. This starts to narrow the more you go up in the tree and requires some additional knowledge on where to shoot what tank. A resource to check out is Tanks.gg. There you can pick a tank select the live option then select the tank firing at it to see the angles of pen. in action.    Currently the Match Maker doesn't take into account Player or Crew skills when going into battle in the interest of keeping the battles "Random." The 3/5/7 MM is part of a template system that I feel was brought into the game to address the issue of being the only Tier 5 in a Tier 7 battle. This way the lowest tier players can pen about 80% of the enemy team. The downside being that you will get to be top tier as often which is something our Developers are aware of and looking to address as explained in the video above.
