thinking about installing cheat mods is going to choose to read
it? It's them you're trying to deter with this policy
afterall, not the rest of us who wouldn't cheat anyway. A
week just seems far too lenient, but I can understand if some magic
numbers say they might all lose interest completely if the ban was
longer & find something else to play instead. I'm just
assuming, but it seems reasonable that if someone is going to seek
unfair advantages by cheating they're also going to seek out the
legal benefits of things like premium time. I've used
aslains for years & never had any problems at all even before it
was on the mod portal. I did notice that he was very quick to
remove the old auto-aim+ mod once WG decided it was unfair, so I'd
imagine he's fairly up to date with what he should & shouldn't have
on there. + if you donwlaod it from the mod portal it's all
been verified by WG anyway. I suspect that the issue a lot
of the players claiming to have issues with mods they have only
downloaded from the portal, is that they've previously had mods
from elsewhere installed & haven't completely removed everything
when they've switched over to the verified versions later on.
There are hidden files such as
c:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Wargaming.net that contain
data which WG might be scanning to detect mods. This file remains
even if you reinstal the game & so if that's part of what they
check & there's previously been banned mods installed it'll flag up
even if the mods aren't active. It could also be why people
are getting perm banned if they had cheated but had removed the
cheats before their 2nd offence. I'm just guessing tho & have
no idea what or how WG check anything.
eekeeboo: As in a warning, if you do something wrong, here's a chance
to improve so it doesn't happen again. To give someone an
opportunity to not lose years of work and potentially thousands of
years of investment due to a minor (or major) infraction on mod use
that they may or may not have been complicit and fully aware of.
Any game company I know have a warning punishment system for
matters like these when such significant amounts of time and money
are invested. It's not about it being 1 week, it's
about being 1 strike and then you lose everything. 1 week is a LONG
time for things like marathon missions or during Frontlines for
instance.
