Matchmaking Discussion Thread

Дата: 23.09.2017 02:01:03
Wysch: Sorry for butchering the English and for a long post. I doubt this point of mine will ever reach anyone. Hell, I'm not even sure if my point is right (or left, Kappa), but here it is:   The problem with matchmaking comes simply from the way Wargaming balances vehicles. All vehicles are (re)balanced basically from above, i.e. it starts with the tier 10 vehicle being competitive in tier 10 battles; and then gets to lower tiers.  The result is, that the tier 10 vehicles are basically overbuffed when compared to the tier 9s and 8s.  For example the previous overbuffs of T110E5, Maus and arguably now IS-7.  (Not to mention seriously broken Japanese Gojiras.) This results logically in tier 8s being completely underpowered when fighting against higher tier vehicles. Tier 8s have no armour, no health, no DPM, no gun handling... they basically have nothing to fight against higher tier vehicles. Thus when in tier 10 games facing top tiers they're basically relying on their team. We all know how it is with teams in this game in random battles.   The proper way how to balance vehicles is - with regards to current matchmaking - quite the opposite. Balancing process should start with lower tiers and keep progressing up towards higher tiers.  For example when a new player starts this game, they reach their first issue somewhere around tier 5. Tier 5 matchmaking is extremely cruel already - you meet plenty of tier 7s (and 6s!) that can kill you in two shots (or even one!). You have no health, you have no view range to spot the threat on your own, and even if you manage to get the gun singing, you have no gun handling to reliably deliver damage. Mediums and lights can usually count on their mobility and agility, TDs and artas don't care at all, but heavies suffer the most. You have no view range, no gun stats (horrible accuracy and soft stats) and you are basically really relying on your team or RNG to get the shot first hoping it would penetrate and do damage. Aiming is in current meta completely out of question imho.   When you move up the tier, it starts already be broken. Tier 6 MM is as broken as tier 8 - because the jump between tier 6 and tier 8 is as bad as between tier 8 and 10.  Also thanks to the "new" matchmaking system, the 3-5-7 doesn't help the lower tiers at all. Thanks to all the great tier 8 premiums, tier 6s are simply underpowered and have to way how to outperform for example a Skorpion G. But they lack even against regular tier 8s such as IS-3 or O-Ho. Similarly because of it the preferential MM vehicles are completely irrelevant now.    So my point is:  To fix the Matchmaking Wargaming first needs to fix the balance of the tanks. I.e. you buff vehicles on lower tiers, or nerf the vehicles on higher tiers with the performance of lower tiers in your mind. Rebalance their stats so the lower tier vehicles are competitive, can stand a chance against "balanced" vehicles such as Defender, Skorpion G or even a frickin IS-3.    If you don't want to rebalance the vehicles, the matchmaking really needs now more than ever a +1MM system. Players shouldn't be punished for having a vehicle that is simply not capable of outperforming a vehicle two tiers higher.    Because my English is really bad, what I basically mean is that the differences between tiers should be on all levels the same as the differences between tier 9 and 10. Basically for example comparing an M103 against a T110E5, WZ-1111-4 against 5A, M46 vs. M48, Leo PTA vs Leo 1 etc.  Comparing for example T32 against T110E5 and IS-3 vs. IS-7 you might understand what I mean with the balancing issue. 110 vs 113 or WZ 5A is a big joke, and we're not even talking about mediums - Panther II vs. E50m, Pershing vs. M48 etc.   The second thing the MM needs to take in count, is the oversaturation of TDs. It's totally mindblowing that a TD two tiers higher with superior camo, view range and ofc gun can be the only top tier (I'm talking about 3-5-7 battles where all three top tiers are TDs). I fully understand most of the playerbase can't comprehend some basic game mechanics, but an average player who knows about spotting mechanics and armour penetration mechanics can simply farm... and farm... and farm damage. Especially when we have such a great game design as the SWE TDs, Rhm Borsigs and such. I.e. what the current Matchmaking imho needs is an increased weight for TDs, so the TDs can't be all three top tiers in 3-5-7 or five in 5-10.  Similarly artillery shouldn't take two (or even three!) slots as top tier.    The game seriously needs more and more work, all the little F-ed up details such as map design, overpenetration of premium ammo, artillery stun mechanics, over-the-top SWE camo etc. in the end make one big problem, and two big problems make one even bigger. And so on. Wargaming has the resources to try new things with the current matchmaking and it shouldn't take two years to change things.  The current meta of the game punishes active and aggressive gameplay, which altogether with a 3-5-7 matchmaking leads to either extremely fast games (2:15 and such), or extremely campy (15 minutes draws happen imho more often now in my experience). I believe that with an improved matchmaking (weight of TDs and arta) and different approach to vehicle (re)balance, the current MM in its 3-5-7 and 5-10 platforms was a good decision.  Otherwise I'd personally welcome a +1 MM now more than ever.   Again, sorry for butchering the English and for such a wall of blabbering text.
