They have their hands full with cleaning hamster cages & the general chat.

Tanitha: Lol nah, tis cool, discussion's fine as long as the abuse keeps out of it.
As for beta's. Ive been in many. They all do it differently.
And to answer some of the previous comments
Yes, I have had to pay for a few beta's. Some were.. You had to be a paid member of a gaming website to get the free beta key.
Some were, you had to buy another one of their older games to be able to beta their new one. Etc..
Yes, Ive seen beta's carried over after release without a wipe. But these were short open beta's before release. So they were really more of a one month "trial before you buy" system. IE closed beta, Full Wipe, 1 month of open beta (or two weeks) which carried over to release. So its very similar to a wipe before release really. Everyone still started from the same point (the start with nothing)
Some games like Darkfall were in production for 9 years. Darkfall announced "beta soon, signup here" in 2006, but beta didn't start until over 2 years later. The beta lasted almost a year. Its a decent game, and we had fun playing it, just saying that delays and long beta's aren't unusual. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkfall
Its a long time ago now, but I'm pretty sure i beta tested wow for over a year too (about 18 months I think), they went through various stages of beta.
All in all, I think WoT is pretty much on par with the best of them, their beta isn't that long in comparison, the games pretty stable and bug free, "since its still a few months away from release" (1st Q 2011).
There is one thing that WoT is doing differently to all the other games i've beta tested.
Other games Usually have a long list of things that will be in the release, and every month that goes by they remove a big pile of features and then list them as "not in the release version they will come shortly after release" And you constantly see features being removed so they can get the game out quicker and pickup some cash. WoT on the other hand seems to be the opposite, every time i read a interview or something similar, they are adding more stuff before release, not removing it.
Articles like this for example. http://www.massively...anks/#continued
And overlords post on the clan war's. etc..
Beta's aren't for everyone, A lot of people don't like playing incomplete games and prefer to wait for release so they can play the full polished game. Some people love playing the beta's to help shape it the way they would like it, and get a learning edge for release, And others play the beta with no understanding about what a beta is and just complain that the game isn't finished yet, which is the point of a closed beta , no its not finished yet : )
